Olanzapine is used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia (a mental illness that causes disturbed or unusual thinking, loss of interest in life, and strong or inappropriate emotions). It is also used to treat bipolar disorder (manic depressive disorder; a disease that causes episodes of depression, episodes of mania, and other abnormal moods). Olanzapine is in a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It works by changing the activity of certain natural substances in the brain.Olanzapine comes as a tablet and an orally disintegrating tablet (tablet that dissolves quickly in the mouth) to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day with or without food. Take olanzapine at around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take olanzapine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Do not try to push the orally disintegrating tablet through the foil. Instead ,use dry hands to peel back the foil packaging. Immediately take out the tablet and place it in your mouth. The tablet will quickly dissolve and can be swallowed with or without liquid.Your doctor may start you on a low dose of olanzapine and gradually increase your dose.Olanzapine may help control your symptoms, but it will not cure your condition. It may take several weeks or longer before you feel the full benefit of olanzapine. Continue to take olanzapine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking olanzapine without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably want to decrease your dose gradually.
Amoxicillin belongs to a group of antibiotics called penicillins. It is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. The injection is used to treat more serious infections, or in cases where the medicine can't be taken by mouth. Amoxicillin works by interfering with the ability of bacteria to form cell walls. The cell walls of bacteria are vital for their survival. They keep unwanted substances from entering their cells and stop the contents of their cells from leaking out. Amoxicillin impairs the bonds that hold the bacterial cell wall together. This allows holes to appear in the cell walls and kills the bacteria. Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that kills a wide variety of bacteria that cause a wide variety of commonly-occuring infections. Amoxicillin may be used to treat infections of the upper or lower airways, skin or soft tissue, or ears. It may also be used to treat urine infections, certain sexually-transmitted infections, dental infections, and infections affecting the blood or internal organs. To make sure the bacteria causing an infection are susceptible to amoxicillin your doctor may take a tissue sample, for example a swab from the throat or skin, or a urine or blood sample.What is it used for? Bacterial infections of the lungs (chest or lower respiratory tract), eg acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia. Bacterial infection of the nasal passages, sinuses or throat (upper respiratory tract infection), eg sinusitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis. Bacterial infections of the middle ear (otitis media).Bacterial infections of the urinary tract or kidneys (pyelonephritis).Bacterial infections of skin or soft tissue, eg boils, abscesses, cellulitis, impetigo.Gynaecological bacterial infections, including those following childbirth or abortion.Gonorrhoea.Abdominal bacterial infections (peritonitis).Bacterial infections of the blood (septicaemia or blood poisoning).Bacterial infection of the heart valves and the lining surrounding the heart (bacterial endocarditis).Preventing infection of the heart (bacterial endocarditis) during medical or dental procedures in people with heart valve defects or artificial heart valves.Dental abscess (as addition to surgical management).Typhoid and paratyphoid fever.Lyme disease (unlicensed use).Eradicating Helicobacteria pylori bacteria in the gut that are associated with causing peptic ulcers (in combination with other medicines). Nystatin is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, mouth, vagina, and intestinal tract. Fungal medicines will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.Nystatin comes as a tablet and a liquid to take by mouth; a soft lozenge (pastille) to be dissolved slowly in the mouth; a tablet and vaginal cream to be inserted into the vagina; and in powder, ointment, and cream to be applied to the skin.Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take nystatin exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Allow the lozenges (pastilles) to dissolve slowly in your mouth. Do not chew or swallow lozenges whole. Continue to use nystatin lozenges (pastilles) for at least 48 hours after symptoms of your mouth infection disappear.Nystatin liquid usually is used three to five times a day for mouth infections and three times a day for intestinal infections. Shake the bottle well before each use to mix the medication evenly. If you are using liquid nystatin for a mouth infection, place half of the dose in each side of the mouth and hold it there or swish it throughout the mouth for several minutes before swallowing. Good oral hygiene, including proper care of dentures, is important for the cure of mouth infections.If you are using liquid nystatin for an intestinal infection, just swallow the liquid you measured from the dropper; there is no need to hold it or swish it in your mouth.Nystatin skin ointment or cream usually is used several times a day for skin infections. Wash the affected area thoroughly. Apply a small amount of cream or ointment and gently and thoroughly massage it into your skin. If you use this medication on your face, keep it out of your eyes.
Desonide is used for: Relieving swelling and itching caused by certain skin conditions. Desonide is a steroid preparation that relieves the itching and inflammation of a variety of skin problems. It is applied directly to the skin. Desonide is a topical (for the skin) steroid. It reduces the actions of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, redness, and swelling.Desonide topical is used to treat the inflammation and itching caused by a number of skin conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, and psoriasis. Nix Dermal Cream is indicated for the treatment of scabies and crab lice. Treatment of scabies:Adults and children over 2 years old should apply the cream to the skin over the whole body including the palms and soles, but not the head and face. Pay particular attention to the areas between the fingers and toes (including under the finger and toe nails), wrists, arm-pits, external genitals and buttocks. Babies and children under 2 years old should be treated as above and also have their necks, faces, ears and scalps treated. Avoid the area around the mouth (as the cream could be licked off) and around the eyes. Children between 2 months and 2 years should only be treated under medical supervision.Elderly (over 65 years old) should apply as directed for adults and children over 2 years old but should also include their necks, faces, ears and scalps. Care must be taken to avoid applying Dermal Cream to areas close to the eyes.The cream should be left on for at least 8 hours, then washed off with soap and water not more than 12 hours later. Re-apply Cream to hands if they are washed with soap and water within 8 hours of treatment. The following table shows how much cream should normally be used: Adults (including Elderly) and children over 12 years: Up to one tube. A few adults may need to use an additional tube, but do not apply more than two tubes. Children aged 6 to 12 years: Up to half a tube Children aged 1 to 5 years: Up to a quarter of a tube Babies aged 2 months to 1 year: Up to an eighth of a tube The dosage recommendations given in this leaflet are only intended as a guide to treatment. Because individuals can vary so much in size you might find that you need to apply slightly more or slightly less cream to completely cover the body. This will not harm you or reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.Treatment of crab lice:Not recommended for persons under 18 years of age. The elderly should be treated under medical supervision. Adults 18 years and over: Sufficient cream should be applied to cover the pubic region, peri-anal (around the anus), inner thighs down to the knees and any hair that grows up from the pubic area to the chest/stomach.One (30 g) tube is more than sufficient to treat one hairy adult. It is recommended that up to a third of a tube is used to treat the pubic region, peri-anal region, thighs, stomach and chest. Not more than two thirds of the tube should be needed for complete treatment. For relatively hair-free individuals proportionately less cream will be required.The cream should be left on the skin for 24 hours. The treatment areas should then be thoroughly washed. Any facial hair (beards, moustaches) and eyelashes should be checked for the presence of live lice and eggs. Cream should be applied to any facial hair, carefully avoiding eyes. If live lice or eggs are found on the eyelashes they should be removed carefully using tweezers. Cream should not be applied to the eye lashes because the cream can cause moderate eye irritation.
Bromocriptine is used to treat amenorrhea, a condition in which the menstrual period does not occur; infertility (inability to get pregnant) in women; abnormal discharge of milk from the breast; hypogonadism; Parkinson's disease; and acromegaly, a condition in which too much growth hormone is in the body.Bromocriptine comes as a capsule and tablet to take by mouth. It usually is taken once or twice a day. It also may be taken several times a day to treat certain conditions. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take bromocriptine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking bromocriptine suddenly without talking with your doctor. It could make your condition worse.If you are taking bromocriptine for amenorrhea, it usually takes 6-8 weeks for a menstrual period to occur. If you are taking bromocriptine to become pregnant, use a method of birth control other than oral contraceptives (birth control pills) until you have regular menstrual periods; then stop using birth control. If your menstrual period is 3 days late, call your doctor for a pregnancy test. Women who become pregnant while taking this medication should stop taking it and call their doctors immediately. If you do not wish to become pregnant, use a method of birth control other than oral contraceptives while taking bromocriptine.Bromocriptine is also used to treat certain tumors in men and women, a condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome; cocaine addiction; and a painful breast condition.
The combination of glyburide and metformin is used to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood) in people whose diabetes cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone. Glyburide belongs to a class of drugs called sulfonylureas, and metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Glyburide lowers blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas, the organ that makes insulin. Insulin helps control blood sugar levels. The pancreas must produce insulin for this medication to work. Metformin helps your body regulate the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you get from your diet and the amount made by your liver. It also helps your body use its own insulin more effectively. Glyburide and metformin are not used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood).Glyburide and metformin combination comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken one to two times daily with meals. Your doctor may gradually increase your dose, depending on your response to glyburide and metformin. Monitor your blood glucose closely. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take glyburide and metformin exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. This medication is a combination of 2 drugs, pioglitazone and glimepiride. It is used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). Effectively controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, circulation problems, and sexual function problems (impotence).Pioglitazone belongs to a class of drugs known as thiazolidinediones or "glitazones." It works by helping to restore your body's proper response to insulin, thereby lowering your blood sugar.Glimepiride belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfonylureas. It works by causing the release of your body's natural insulin.How to use Pioglitazone/Glimepride OralRead the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start taking this medication and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.Take this medication by mouth, usually once daily with the first main meal of the day or as directed by your doctor.The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not take more than 45 milligrams of pioglitazone a day.Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to take it at the same time each day. Monitor your blood sugar levels on a regular basis, and share the results with your doctor.It may take up to 2 to 3 months before you get the full benefit of this drug.When switching from individual diabetes drugs to this combination product, your doctor may ask you to check your blood sugar more often to make sure you do not have a sudden attack of low blood sugar (hypoglycemic reaction) when starting this product. Simvastatin is used together with lifestyle changes (diet, weight-loss, exercise) to reduce the amount of cholesterol (a fat-like substance) and certain other fatty substances in your blood. Simvastatin is in a class of medications called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins). It works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the body.Buildup of cholesterol and fats along the walls of your arteries (a process known as atherosclerosis) decreases blood flow and, therefore, the oxygen supply to your heart, brain, and other parts of your body. Lowering your blood level of cholesterol and fats may help to decrease your chances of getting heart disease, angina (chest pain), strokes, and heart attacks. In addition to taking a cholesterol-lowering medication, making certain changes in your daily habits can also lower your cholesterol blood levels. You should eat a diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol (see SPECIAL DIETARY), exercise 30 minutes on most, if not all days, and lose weight if you are overweight.
This drug belongs to a group of medications called ACE inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children 6 years of age and older. It works by relaxing blood vessels, causing them to widen. High blood pressure reduction helps prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems.This medication is also used after an acute heart attack to improve survival, and is used with other drugs (e.g., "water pills"/diuretics, digoxin) to treat congestive heart failure.OTHER USES: This section contains uses of this drug that are not listed in the approved professional labeling for the drug but that may be prescribed by your health care professional. Use this drug for a condition that is listed in this section only if it has been so prescribed by your health care professional.This medication may also be used to help protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes.How to use Lisinopril OralTake this medication by mouth, usually once a day or as directed by your doctor. You may take this drug with or without food. Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.If you are taking this drug in the liquid suspension form, shake the bottle well before each use. Measure the dose out carefully.Do not take potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first. This medicine can raise your potassium levels, which rarely can cause serious side effects such as muscle weakness or very slow heartbeats. Tell your doctor immediately if these effects occur.The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. For the treatment of high blood pressure, it may take 2 to 4 weeks before the full benefit of this drug occurs. It may take several weeks or months to see the full benefit when this drug is used for congestive heart failure.It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
Tetrabenazine is a drug for the symptomatical treatment of hyperkinetic movement disorder and is marketed under the trade names Nitoman in Canada and Xenazine in New Zealand and some parts of Europe, and is also available in the USA as an orphan drug.
