Efudix ( Generic Fluorouracil )

Fluorouracil cream and topical solution are used to treat actinic or solar keratoses (scaly or crusted lesions [skin areas] caused by years of too much exposure to sunlight). Fluorouracil cream and topical solution are also used to treat a type of skin cancer called superficial basal cell carcinoma if usual types of treatment cannot be used. Fluorouracil is in a class of medications called antimetabolites. It works by killing fast-growing cells such as the abnormal cells in actinic keratoses and basal cell carcinoma.Fluorouracil comes as a solution and a cream to apply to the skin. It is usually applied to the affected areas twice a day . To help you remember to use fluorouracil , apply it around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use fluorouracil exactly as directed. Do not apply more or less of it or apply it more often than prescribed by your doctor. If you are using fluorouracil to treat actinic or solar keratoses, you should continue using it until the lesions start to peel off. This usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks. However, the lesions may not be completely healed until 1 or 2 months after you stop using fluorouracil. If you are using fluorouracil to treat basal cell carcinoma, you should continue using it until the lesions are gone. This usually takes at least 3 to 6 weeks, but may take as long as 10 to 12 weeks.During the first few weeks of treatment, the skin lesions and surrounding areas will feel irritated and look red, swollen, and scaly. This is a sign that fluorouracil is working. Do not stop using fluorouracil unless your doctor has told you to do so.Apply fluorouracil cream with a nonmetal applicator, a glove, or your finger. If you apply fluorouracil cream with your finger, be sure to wash your hands well immediately afterwards. Do not cover the treated areas with a bandage or dressing unless your doctor tells you to.Do not apply fluorouracil cream or topical solution to the eyelids or the eyes, nose, or mouth.

Frumil ( Generic Amiloride/Frusemide )

Frumil tablets and Frumil LS tablets contain two active ingredients, amiloride hydrochloride and furosemide. Furosemide is a type of medicine called a loop diuretic, and amiloride is a type of medicine called a potassium-sparing diuretic. This combination of diuretics is also known as co-amilofruse. (NB. Co-amilofruse tablets are also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.)Diuretics are sometimes referred to as æwater tabletsÆ. They remove excess fluid from the body by increasing the production of urine. Diuretics act in the kidneys. They work by causing the kidneys to increase the amount of salts, such as potassium and sodium, that are filtered out of the blood and into the urine. When these salts are filtered out of the blood by the kidneys, they draw water alongside them. As diuretics increase the removal of salts from the blood, they also cause more water to be drawn out of the blood and into the urine. Loop diuretics like furosemide are strong diuretics that cause lots of potassium to be filtered out of the blood. This can sometimes cause the level of potassium in the blood to fall too low. A low blood potassium level is called hypokalaemia and can sometimes be dangerous, particularly for people with heart disease or liver disease. Amiloride on the other hand, is a weaker diuretic that causes potassium to be retained in the body. It is used in combination with furosemide to prevent the amount of potassium in the blood from falling too low.Co-amilofruse is used to treat conditions where excess fluid has been retained in the body (oedema) and where a drop in the amount of potassium in the blood could be dangerous. For example, it is used in heart failure, where the pumping mechanism of the heart is less effective. This can cause fluid to build up in the ankles, causing swollen ankles, and in the lungs (pulmonary oedema), which makes it difficult to breathe. Furosemide helps the body to remove this excess fluid. Removing fluid from the blood vessels also decreases the pressure within the blood vessels. This makes it easier for a weak heart to pump blood around the body.It is also used to remove excess fluid that can accumulate as a result of cirrhosis of the liver. This fluid may accumulate and cause swelling in the abdomen (ascites) or in the legs (peripheral oedema). What is it used for? Treating fluid retention (oedema) in conditions where it is important that the amount of potassium in the blood does not fall too low, for example in heart failure, liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, or oedema caused by treatment with corticosteroids or oestrogens.

Tenoric 50 ( Tenoretic, Generic Atenolol/Chlorthalidone )

This product is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This product contains two medications. Atenolol is a beta blocker that works by blocking the effect of certain natural chemicals such as adrenaline (epinephrine) on the heart and blood vessels. This slows your heartbeat, lowers blood pressure, and reduces strain on the heart. Chlorthalidone is a "water pill" (diuretic) that works by increasing the amount of urine that you make. This causes your body to get rid of extra salt and water, which probably helps to relax the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. These two drugs are used together when one medication is not controlling your blood pressure. How to use Atenolol-Chlorthalidone OralTake this medication by mouth, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor. You may take this medication with or without food, but it is important to choose one way and take this medication the same way with every dose.It is best to avoid taking this medication within 4 hours of your bedtime to avoid having to get up to urinate. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about your dosing schedule. The dosage is based on your age, medical condition and response to therapy. If you have severe liver or kidney problems, your dosage may need to be adjusted.Cholestyramine and colestipol may decrease the absorption of this medication. If you are taking either of these drugs, separate them from this medication by at least 4 hours.Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. It may take up to several weeks before the full benefit of this drug takes effect.Do not stop taking this medication without first consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when the drug is abruptly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Permite ( Nix Dermal, Generic Permethrin )

Nix Dermal Cream is indicated for the treatment of scabies and crab lice. Treatment of scabies:Adults and children over 2 years old should apply the cream to the skin over the whole body including the palms and soles, but not the head and face. Pay particular attention to the areas between the fingers and toes (including under the finger and toe nails), wrists, arm-pits, external genitals and buttocks. Babies and children under 2 years old should be treated as above and also have their necks, faces, ears and scalps treated. Avoid the area around the mouth (as the cream could be licked off) and around the eyes. Children between 2 months and 2 years should only be treated under medical supervision.Elderly (over 65 years old) should apply as directed for adults and children over 2 years old but should also include their necks, faces, ears and scalps. Care must be taken to avoid applying Dermal Cream to areas close to the eyes. The cream should be left on for at least 8 hours, then washed off with soap and water not more than 12 hours later. Re-apply Cream to hands if they are washed with soap and water within 8 hours of treatment. The following table shows how much cream should normally be used: Adults (including Elderly) and children over 12 years: Up to one tube. A few adults may need to use an additional tube, but do not apply more than two tubes. Children aged 6 to 12 years: Up to half a tube Children aged 1 to 5 years: Up to a quarter of a tube Babies aged 2 months to 1 year: Up to an eighth of a tube The dosage recommendations given in this leaflet are only intended as a guide to treatment. Because individuals can vary so much in size you might find that you need to apply slightly more or slightly less cream to completely cover the body. This will not harm you or reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.Treatment of crab lice:Not recommended for persons under 18 years of age. The elderly should be treated under medical supervision. Adults 18 years and over: Sufficient cream should be applied to cover the pubic region, peri-anal (around the anus), inner thighs down to the knees and any hair that grows up from the pubic area to the chest/stomach.One (30 g) tube is more than sufficient to treat one hairy adult. It is recommended that up to a third of a tube is used to treat the pubic region, peri-anal region, thighs, stomach and chest. Not more than two thirds of the tube should be needed for complete treatment. For relatively hair-free individuals proportionately less cream will be required. The cream should be left on the skin for 24 hours. The treatment areas should then be thoroughly washed. Any facial hair (beards, moustaches) and eyelashes should be checked for the presence of live lice and eggs. Cream should be applied to any facial hair, carefully avoiding eyes. If live lice or eggs are found on the eyelashes they should be removed carefully using tweezers. Cream should not be applied to the eye lashes because the cream can cause moderate eye irritation.

The drug is available in different dosages because a standardised unique dose is not optimal for every woman. Studies have demonstrated that after four weeks of treatment there is a significant reduction in hot flushes and other menopausal complaints. The administration of Estrofem« results in a significant increase of bone density.Estrofem« is an oestrogen only treatment for effective symptom relief and one of the options for osteoporosis prevention in hysterectomised women.Promotes growth and development of female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics; affects release of pituitary gonadotropins; inhibits ovulation and prevents postpartum breast engorgement; conserves calcium and phosphorous and encourages bone formation; overrides stimulatory effects of testosterone.

Alphadol ( One-Alpha. Alfad, Generic Alfacalcidol )

This belongs to the group of medicines known as vitamins.Alfacalcidol is a form of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is necessary for healthy bones and teeth, and a healthy immune system.Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. It controls the absorption of calcium from the gut and is used to make bones. The body can make vitamin D when the skin is exposed to sunlight. Deficiency is caused by inadequate exposure to sunlight and low consumption of foods containing Vitamin D. The best natural sources are found in oily fish (sardine, herring, salmon and tuna), liver, dairy products and egg yolks.Long-term Vitamin D deficiency may cause low blood levels of calcium and phosphate, which results in the softening of the bones. In children this can cause abnormal bone development (rickets) and in adults it can cause osteoporosis, backache, muscle weakness, bone pain and fractures. Alfacalcidol is used to treat Vitamin D deficiency and conditions where there is not enough calcium in the blood especially in patients who have kidney problems.Alfacalcidol is also sometimes known as hydroxycholecalciferol. You may notice the use of either spelling on your container.Alfacalcidol is available in capsule, oral drops and injection form.It is also sometimes known as: One-Alpha. You may notice the use of any of these names on the packaging of your medicine. How does it work? When Vitamin D is ingested in the form usually present in the diet (or produced in the skin by the action of sunlight) it requires to be "activated" by a series of chemical steps before it has any effect in the body. An important action of Vitamin D is to increase the absorption of calcium in the food we eat and so to maintain calcium stores in the body. One step in the activation of the Vitamin takes place in the kidney and requires the presence of a hormone called parathyroid hormone (PTH). When PTH is lacking in the body (which is the case following parathyroidectomy) the kidney step cannot take place and calcium deficiency (hypocalcaemia) results. To get around this problem it is necessary to by-pass the kidney step by taking the "activated" form of Vitamin D which is Alfacalcidol. Alfacalcidol is therefore used to prevent Vitamin D deficiency and thus hypocalcaemia in people who have undergone the surgical removal of their parathyroid glands (parathyroidectomy). How do I take it?Alfacalcidol can be taken as a capsule or as a liquid for which purpose a measure/dispenser is provided. The individual dose is that required to maintain a normal level of calcium in the blood. It may be adjusted from time to time in response to blood test results. Most adults require to take between 1 microgram and 3 microgram Alfacalcidol daily in order to achieve initial control of their calcium level but the maintenance dose thereafter is normally in the range 0.25 microgram to 1 microgram per day. The dose is taken once a day and at any time of the day.

Cabgolin ( Dostinex, Generic Cabergoline )

Category:Dopamine agonist antihyperprolactinemic Cabergoline (ca-BER-goe-leen) is used to treat different types of medical problems that occur when too much of the hormone prolactin is produced. Cabergoline use is usually stopped when prolactin levels are normal for 6 months. It may be given again if symptoms of too much prolactin occur again.Cabergoline is in a group of drugs called dopamine receptor antagonists. It works by reducing the amount of prolactin (a hormone) that is released from the pituitary gland. Cabergoline is used to treat a hormone imbalance in which there is too much prolactin in the blood (also called hyperprolactinemia).Treating disorders associated with high levels of the hormone prolactin, either due to tumors in the pituitary gland or to unknown causes. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.Cabergoline is a dopamine receptor agonist. It works by blocking prolactin secretion from the pituitary gland.
